-
If two events already have a fade or transition between them, click to position the cursor in the overlapping area and press Ctrl+/ (on the numeric keypad) to convert the fade to a cut. Next, press / on the numeric keypad to convert the cut to a crossfade of the length you chose in step 1c.

-
Move the cursor to the desired beginning of the fade:
-
Press Ctrl+G. The Cursor Position box in the bottom-right corner of the timeline becomes editable.
-
Type an offset to move the cursor to the desired beginning of the fade. For example, to move the cursor three seconds to the left, type -3.0. To move three seconds to the right, type +3.0. The cursor moves by the offset amount.
-
Using the new cursor position as a snap point, trim the edge of the other event to the cursor.
Keyboard shortcuts help you edge-trim events quickly:
-
Press [ or ] (or 7 or 9 on the numeric keypad) to move the cursor to the event edge you want to trim. [ or 7 selects the beginning of an event or moves to the previous event edge. ] or 9 selects the end of the event or moves to the next event edge. A red bracket is displayed to indicate which event edge will be trimmed.
-
Use the 1, 3 and 4, 6 keys on the numeric keypad to trim the current event edge:
Press 1 to trim one video frame left, or press 3 to trim one video frame right (or hold Ctrl+Shift+Alt while rolling the mouse wheel).
Press 4 to trim one pixel left, or press 6 to trim one pixel right (or hold Ctrl+Shift while rolling the mouse wheel). Depending on the current zoom level, the trim duration will vary.
